Was House of the Dragon Season 2 Really That Bad?

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. There have been plenty of grumbles about this season. I’m not going to pretend like I don’t get why people are complaining. I am big enough to admit that purely from an entertainment perspective, this season really wasn’t as good as it could have been. It is not helped by the fact season 1 had the opposite problem. Season 1 involved a lot of time jumps and skips. It’s not too surprising they had to do that. If things were done more real time, it would take four seasons before we actually get to the Dance of the Dragons. Season 1 was…

    Recording a Finale!

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. Well! In just an hour from now, I’m going to begin recording the final episode of Season 1 of this podcast! I’m going to go on a short break for the month of August. Then the month of September I’m going to be back to researching, writing scripts, and recording the podcast episodes for Season 2. Even though I’ll be going on my hiatus after I release this week’s episode, I’ll be around. I plan to write more on this blog. I will also be working on repurposing the content of Season 1 to promote the podcast in the months of August…

    Season 2 Poll Update! – 7/29/24

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. Well! I’ve been running this poll nearly a month. I’m appreciative that people decided to vote! For a while there was just the one vote. Then two more people added their opinions. I guess because the deadline is getting closer, there are listeners deciding to make their thoughts known. To my shock, I saw this result the other day! Well there’s just two more weeks left. I’m hoping that there’s more votes that will break this three-way tie! In the event there is still a tie of some kind, I will make the final decision of what Season 2 will be about.…

By The Numbers Statistics – 7/25/24 Edition

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. I thought it was so totally fascinating that I decided to do a series on this publication I call “By the Numbers.” What is it about? This is basically me sharing some statistics about the podcast with you! Okay, but why? I have no idea how many of you would actually be curious about this, but I think it’s interesting learning a bit more about the people who are listening to this podcast! Now granted I don’t know any personal data like names or anything. I do however know a few interesting things that have some importance to me. Bear in mind,…

Cross-Promo With Lore of The Rings!

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. I’m excited to announce the first cross-promo for The Westerosi Primer. It is Lore of the Rings. If you love LOTR, check this amazing podcast out! What happened? Imagine my surprise when I was checking my e-mail on the morning of July 1. It was a notification from Red Circle that someone sent me a cross-promo request. I was delighted to receive a nice message from Aaron, the host, about doing a cross-promo with him. He pointed out there was some audience crossover between the two fandoms. After thinking about it, it does make sense. George R.R. Martin, like many fantasy authors,…

The Vale: Peaks of Power and Targaryen Ties

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. Hi! In case you’re new to the podcast over all, here’s an overview of the title episode which was of course about The Vale of Arryn! If you’re interested in listening to the full episode with show notes and transcript you can check it out here: https://thewesterosiprimer.com/episode/the-vale The Andals Like many kingdoms in Westeros, the first humans to settle the Vale were the First Men. Eventually they were invaded by the Andals. Unlike the North, the Vale was eventually overtaken by the Andals. Some houses maintain and are proud of their First Men heritage, like the Royces. They maintained their places as…

I’m going to be attending New York…

What It Takes to Make A Podcast

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. It’s not easy being an independent podcaster. It’s also not easy doing all the work yourself. Especially since I do this show solo with no co-host(s). It’s important to plan things out and do your homework. So here’s a run-down of what it takes for me to produce every episode of The Westerosi Primer. Script writing Initially I wasn’t going to write a script for this podcast. I was originally going to wing it like I did with Three Fates Decide and to some degree with Cafe Manga. However my first attempt at recording Episode 2 about the North was a disaster.…

The North: Legacy of the First Men and the Unyielding Houses of Winterfell

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. If you’re interested in listening to the full episode with transcript, check out the episode here: https://thewesterosiprimer.com/episode/the-north You can also find links to where you can listen to the podcast on your favorite platform. What is this episode about? In this episode I talk about the North! Understanding the history of the North really does explain a great deal about the people who live there. It’s pretty fascinating how the people of the North really identify and maintain many aspects of First Men culture. One notable thing about the First Men is that they worship the Old Gods. A majority of people…

Introduction – Who am I and what is this show about?

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. So this post is about the very first episode I released! You can listen to it on your favorite podcast listening platform. Or you can also check it on my website: https://thewesterosiprimer.com/episode/introduction One advantage is that you can get the show notes and the full transcript. How it began The short story is that I’ve been a fan of the series since 2013. Season 3 was about to air on HBO (now Max). My family and I are too cheap to add another channel to the cable since streaming for HBO didn’t exist yet. In fact Game of Thrones is basically the…
