Thank You and Shouting Out to You Listeners

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. This is going to be a brief one because I’ve been dillydallying writing on this newsletter. Now that I’ve gone on hiatus I should do better. So here I am with a really quick message. This is to anyone and everyone who has listened to this podcast. Seriously. Thank you for spending however many minutes or even hours you did listening to me babble on about a fictional continent with a LOT of fictional people. I’m aiming to come back later this year with new energy and new episodes. In the mean time, I’m going to do better with writing the newsletter…

Time Sure Flies When You’re Busy Podcasting

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. I’ll apologize to everyone for not being consistent writing the newsletter. To be fair, I’ve been more focused on producing episodes. Also I do have other hobbies and interest I indulge in beyond podcasting. In truth I have a lot of re-thinking in terms of my personal schedule. This is something I will be doing during the upcoming hiatus. It’s crazy to me how now that it’s February, it’s almost the end of Season 2! It feels like it was almost yesterday that I started releasing Season 2 and now it’s almost over. I have just 3 episodes left to do. Two…

    Recording a Finale!

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. Well! In just an hour from now, I’m going to begin recording the final episode of Season 1 of this podcast! I’m going to go on a short break for the month of August. Then the month of September I’m going to be back to researching, writing scripts, and recording the podcast episodes for Season 2. Even though I’ll be going on my hiatus after I release this week’s episode, I’ll be around. I plan to write more on this blog. I will also be working on repurposing the content of Season 1 to promote the podcast in the months of August…

    Season 2 Poll Update! – 7/29/24

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. Well! I’ve been running this poll nearly a month. I’m appreciative that people decided to vote! For a while there was just the one vote. Then two more people added their opinions. I guess because the deadline is getting closer, there are listeners deciding to make their thoughts known. To my shock, I saw this result the other day! Well there’s just two more weeks left. I’m hoping that there’s more votes that will break this three-way tie! In the event there is still a tie of some kind, I will make the final decision of what Season 2 will be about.…

By The Numbers Statistics – 7/25/24 Edition

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. I thought it was so totally fascinating that I decided to do a series on this publication I call “By the Numbers.” What is it about? This is basically me sharing some statistics about the podcast with you! Okay, but why? I have no idea how many of you would actually be curious about this, but I think it’s interesting learning a bit more about the people who are listening to this podcast! Now granted I don’t know any personal data like names or anything. I do however know a few interesting things that have some importance to me. Bear in mind,…

What It Takes to Make A Podcast

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. It’s not easy being an independent podcaster. It’s also not easy doing all the work yourself. Especially since I do this show solo with no co-host(s). It’s important to plan things out and do your homework. So here’s a run-down of what it takes for me to produce every episode of The Westerosi Primer. Script writing Initially I wasn’t going to write a script for this podcast. I was originally going to wing it like I did with Three Fates Decide and to some degree with Cafe Manga. However my first attempt at recording Episode 2 about the North was a disaster.…

Introduction – Who am I and what is this show about?

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. So this post is about the very first episode I released! You can listen to it on your favorite podcast listening platform. Or you can also check it on my website: https://thewesterosiprimer.com/episode/introduction One advantage is that you can get the show notes and the full transcript. How it began The short story is that I’ve been a fan of the series since 2013. Season 3 was about to air on HBO (now Max). My family and I are too cheap to add another channel to the cable since streaming for HBO didn’t exist yet. In fact Game of Thrones is basically the…

Script Writing Is A Lot Of Work

Please note this was originally posted on Substack. I can’t lie. Script writing isn’t easy. I don’t typically write scripts. I’m used to writing memos at work. I’m used to writing essays in school and occasionally on a blog (ha!). I’ve been writing fiction in drips and drabs since I was a child. I’ve only tried script writing a few times. It’s just not a familiar format. It doesn’t feel natural like a favorite pair of socks. Heck in my other podcasts, I never wrote a script. I actually discuss this a bit in my first episode of the podcast! However it became very clear when I was starting to…
