Time Sure Flies When You’re Busy Podcasting

I’ll apologize to everyone for not being consistent writing the newsletter. To be fair, I’ve been more focused on producing episodes. Also I do have other hobbies and interest I indulge in beyond podcasting. In truth I have a lot of re-thinking in terms of my personal schedule. This is something I will be doing during the upcoming hiatus.

It’s crazy to me how now that it’s February, it’s almost the end of Season 2! It feels like it was almost yesterday that I started releasing Season 2 and now it’s almost over. I have just 3 episodes left to do.

Two of the episodes will be scripted since they are the final kings of the Targaryen dynasty left to talk about. I was also going to do a mostly unscripted final episode to be my little soap box on House Targaryen. It’s also going to include some housekeeping in relation to what I’m planning to do for Season 3 and some of the things I’ll be doing during the hiatus.

One interesting thing that happened was it came to my attention that Player.fm had made it easier for podcasters to advertise their podcasts to potential listeners on their platform. It’s costs $250 for 15 days of promotion. After some consideration, I gave it a shot. I basically had no downloads/streams on that platform so why not?

I’m shocked at the results. The campaign literally started on February 1. I had 1,770 total downloads on January 31. It’s about halfway through my downloads have almost doubled. Most of the downloads were from Player.fm because over 1,300 come from that platform.

I’ll be curious to see what the stats are after the campaign ends and after the season ends. Obviously I won’t get the crazy numbers I got during the campaign. However I’ll be curious to see if these new Player.fm listeners actually go back to the past episodes. If they do, it’ll help boost the stats for a few more weeks as listeners check out the back catalog.

I don’t personally think my back catalog is that crazy in terms of the number of episodes. But that’s just my opinion.
